Jasmine’s Quinceanera

Everyone meet Jasmine. Jasmine just turned 15 years old and celebrated her Quinceanera two weeks ago today.

I had the honor of being her photographer. Since this was my first time photographing a Quinceanera, I took the client with the thought of the day being like a wedding.  I spent about 8 hours with her photographing the days events. Let me walk you through as I saw it through my lens.

In this photograph below, Jasmine puts on her dress and comes around the corner totally excited about showing her dress off to her family. She said she feels like a Mexican Cinderella. I think she looked better then Cinderella!

Here her Aunt help with putting on this beautiful pearl necklace.

Next we head outside for some quick photographs. Later we’re heading to the park. I wanted to see how the guys and girls get along and see if they were a fun bunch or kicked back group.

Next Jasmine gets inside the car totally excited about what is coming next. She decides to give us a happy dance.

We arrive at the church where the priest will bless and give communion during the mass.

Jasmine’s parents are holding the Holly Bible that the priest is blessing. The bible will guide Jasmine in her walk through becoming a women.

After the mass we do a few group photos. Jasmine’s Godmother and Grandmother.

Next we drive to the park where her Mom and Dad used to hangout when they were dating. This area was a little challenging as it didn’t provide me with any cover from the sun. This time of day the sun was high and bright.

I was left all alone with no parents insight to help me keep them all focused.  You know what the saying is, when the cats away the mice will play. Well this time it felt like pulling teeth to get the guys to work with me. It took all my skills as I tried to pull out all the stops to make each photograph work.  You could see the lack of excitement in their faces in the image below.  The only one smiling is Jasmine.

Since the guys weren’t giving me anything to work with, I decided to pull the ladies together and do something a little fun.

Following the park comes the reception where Jasmine dances the night away!

I have to thank Jasmine and Miguel’s family for giving me this opportunity to capture the days events. This was my first Quinceanera and I had a blast. This family has lots of love and compassion for one anther. Thank you once again!

Maternity Photography Session with the Ackerman’s

Meet the Ackerman’s. The family is expecting their second child later this month. The photography session was done on Saturday, March 28, 2009. The family came to me from a referral. They are a really sweet family and I was totally excited they booked with me. In these maternity photographs below, she’s due later this month.

Fabi warned me about her 2 year old son Noah during our consultation. She mentioned that each time someone wanted to photograph him, he puts his hands in the air and says no. So I went into the session knowing it might be a challenge for me. So I warmed him up by talking and explaining what I was doing as he was asking me questions. “What is this”? I pulled out the camera for the first time and yep, he went into the corner and said no. So I told him how handsome he was and to look at the photograph I had in the camera of him. MAGIC, I was saved. From that point forward he always wanted to view the images. He’s such a great kid and he’s going to be a great big brother! Thank you Noah for a fun day!

I love getting the father of the baby involved. I love seeing that emotional bond between Daddy and soon to be baby. Bryan here is on one knee huging the tummy. I really feel the emotion in this photography. I hope you do, too!

anthonylujanphotography-maternityphotograph412092

One of my typical photographs is the parents combining their hands to make a heart on the tummy. Since we had Noah (soon to be big brother) I wanted to capture his hands, too. Some times I see my clients photographs and a few of them stick out in my mind. This is one that does this.

The Ackerman’s photograph so well they made it so easy for me. I had so much fun with them! Here’s my favorite family portrait of the day.

Anthony Lujan’s Individual Portraits

Today I want to change it up and highlight a couple of people I’ve enjoyed photographing.

| Natalie |

I’ve known Natalie for several years now. She’s a strong, caring and most of all a wonderful woman. Nat or Natally are my nicknames for her depending on my mood. If I’m bouncing it’s Natally and if I’m rushing it’s short and sweet Nat.

Natalie come to us from Georgia. She has a great southern accent which I totally love. She has that great charm and hospitality that you don’t find here in California. Here is one of my most favorite photographs from our photography session in Cerritos, CA. Thank you Natalie for trusting me and allowing me to photograph you!

| Kris |

Talk about a fun session! Kris is an adult entertainer that lives in the Hollywood Hills. He needed some new portraits that were a little different then the typical studio portrait. So during my consultation with him, I thought what would be perfect then a shoot on location in Hollywood. We started talking more and more and came up with a few locations in Hollywood. We did not want the typical photograph on the Hollywood strip or at a popular hot spot.  I mentioned the Hollywood Hills as the houses and backdrop of the Hollywood Sign would be an added bonus. He said that would be awesome! I had an idea to go outside of Madonna’s old house, you know the one she painted like candy stripes that upset the neighborhood. In my mind I had an idea to photograph Kris up against the gates.  It was so much fun to see my vision come to life. I think this is totally what I needed for this edgy guy. I hope you agree.

anthonylujanphotography-portraitphotography0021

If you’ve been to Hollywood, you’ll know it’s a lot of driving and turning through these hills. Each turn you make you see something. It’s kind of funny how this next photograph came about. We are leaving the gates of Madonna’s old house and walked to the left we see the Hollywood sign. When we parked we had come down the hill making tons of turns and right their in front of you is the Hollywood Sign. If this didn’t call out to me and say photograph me! So I had Kris standing out in the middle of the street starting to pose. I said stop and give me how you stand everyday. Here is the end result.
