For this weeks “Travel Tuesday”, I want to share with you a fantastic location in Carlsbad, CA called The Flower Fields. This location was suggested to me years ago and in March of 2007 I had the chance to go down and let my macro and landscape photography run wild.
Here’s a little more information about them:
The Flower Fields season begins March 1st.
For over sixty years, Mother Nature has transformed the rolling hills of North San Diego County into one of the most spectacular and coordinated displays of natural color and beauty anywhere in the world. The nearly fifty acres of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers that make up The Flower Fields® at Carlsbad Ranch, in Carlsbad, California, are in a full bloom for approximately six to eight weeks each year – from early March through early May – literally bringing the famous fields back to life. This annual burst of color, which has become part of the area’s local heritage, is also one of nature’s official ways of announcing the arrival of spring here in Southern California.
Season: Spring (March 1st through May 9th, 2010)
Hours: Open to the public seven days a week
from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Prices: $10.00 for Adults, $9.00 for Seniors 60+, $5.00 for Children 3 – 10,
Children 2 and under are Free
Season Passes: $20.00 for Adults, $18.00 Seniors 60+, $10.00 for Children 3 – 10
Wagon Rides: $5.00 for Adults, $3.00 for Children 3 – 10
I hope you enjoyed my photographs from The Flower Fields. I would suggest everyone should take their family at least once and soak up the beauty that the Flower Fields has to offer.

Today’s “Travel Tuesday” is about my trip to Seattle, Washington. I went to Seattle on business in 2007. It was suppose to only be a day trip but I extended it a couple more days as I really wanted to see the city.
The month was January almost three years to the date. It was cold, damp and overcast. I figured since my trip was going to be extremely quick I wanted to book a tour so I could capture all the main highlights. Well if you have ever tried to book a tour during this time, you’ll quickly see they don’t have any! Well, not 100% correct! I found one and the only one!
The tour guide took us to the Fremont Troll, passed by the Space Needle, took photographs at Kerry Park and we were set free at Pike Place Market.
I knew Seattle was known for having American Bald Eagles. I had always dreamed about photographing them. So I asked the tour guide if I could hire him for a few hours so he could drive me around to find some. She said sure he had nothing else to do that evening. Evening is the key word. The guide took me to Schmitz Park. The only two photographs I was able to capture of the Bald Eagle was right when the sun was setting. Not the best photographs I’ve ever taken but still had them photographed! Now the guide and I decided to walk the park. We saw a huge tree that had fallen down and all the roots were exposed. I photographed the guide who is 6’1 in front of the fallen tree. You’ll see the roots were huge!
On my last full day I heard that Seattle has an amazing zoo called the Woodland Park Zoo. I also heard that the Pacific Science Center had a butterfly exhibit. So I rushed down to the Pacific Science Center to photograph the butterflies then rushed to the zoo. The zoo photographs I’ll add in a future blog.
But now enjoy the butterflies and the rest of the photographs from my trip to Seattle, Washington!

For today’s “Travel Tuesday” I want to share that in 2007 I became a member of the Aquarium of the Pacific.
The Aquarium of the Pacific is home to more than 12,500 ocean animals, representing nearly 500 species, the Aquarium celebrates the planet’s largest and most diverse body of water: the Pacific Ocean. Featuring 19 major habitats and 32 focus exhibits, the Aquarium of the Pacific is a world-class aquarium, exploring the waters of Southern California and Baja, the Northern Pacific, and the Tropical Pacific.

The sea jellies are an awesome exhibit to see.

Now transport yourself to the coastal lowlands of Australia when you enter Lorikeet Forest, a 3,200 sq. ft. outdoor aviary. More than 100 enthusiastic lorikeets fill the trees. Purchase a small cup of nectar, the lorikeets’ favorite food, to feed the birds as you walk through the exhibit. You will find them sitting on your hand, arm, shoulder or even your head to get a sip of sweet nectar!
Measuring approximately 10 inches in length, lorikeets exhibit a dazzling color combination, ranging from brilliant blues and greens to exquisite reds, yellows, and deep purples. When seen in full sunlight, these beautifully colored birds almost radiate an iridescent glow—a bright contrast to the thick, dark trees of their natural habitat.
The Aquarium’s Lorikeet Forest features five sub-species of Rainbow Lorikeets. Lorikeet Forest also features two close relatives of Rainbow Lorikeets and the Violet-necked Lory. Unlike lorikeets that have long tapered tails, lories have short blunt tails.

Now get going and show me your photographs from your excursion to the Aquarium of the Pacific!

Have I ever told you I really enjoy the beach? Well I do! I’ve been far North to the shores of Victoria, British Canada and as far South as Lima, Peru. But it still amazes me how beautiful our Southern California beaches are.
With this in mind here are a few photographs I’ve taken that I want to share with you for my “Travel Tuesday”.
